This section is designed for GPs, nurses, pharmacists, educators, social care workers, and other professionals supporting individuals with their sexual and reproductive health. Here you’ll find essential information about our referral pathways, clinical guidelines, service offers, training opportunities, and how we can work together to improve outcomes for our local communities.

Referring into our service
You can refer patients directly to Sexual Health Services Nottingham and Nottinghamshire for specialist support with:
- Complex or symptomatic sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
- HIV care and monitoring
- Long-acting reversible contraception (LARC)
- Sexual assault aftercare (within 4 weeks)
- Psychosexual counselling
- Pregnancy testing and support with pregnancy choices
- Access to HIV PrEP or PEP
Clinicians can also make referrals through NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS) for specific services such as the Chandos Clinic for sexual dysfunction or for complex GUM presentations.
If you are unsure which pathway is appropriate, please contact our team for clinical advice.
Resources for professionals
We provide up-to-date guidance and information based on national clinical standards, including:
- British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH)
- College of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (previously known as Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare)
- British HIV Association (BHIVA)
- NICE Clinical Guidelines
We can also provide printed materials, patient information leaflets, and links to evidence-based resources to support your consultations.
Training and outreach
Our team offers professional development and outreach sessions for:
- Schools, colleges, and universities
- Community health teams
- Youth services and safeguarding professionals
- GP practices and pharmacies
Topics include STI prevention, contraception options, supporting young people, consent and confidentiality, HIV awareness, and delivering inclusive care.
If your organisation would benefit from staff training or would like us to deliver a session to a group, please get in touch at nuhnt.outreachandhealthpromotion.nhs.net
Partnership working
We work closely with local authorities, safeguarding boards, community outreach providers and voluntary sector organisations. If you are part of a project or service supporting people at higher risk of poor sexual health outcomes – such as young people, people who inject drugs, sex workers, or LGBTQ+ communities – we would be happy to explore how we can collaborate.
